Taking the JLPT
July 16, 2008 – 2:05 amI’ve decided I’m going to take the JLPT this year since I’m in Japan and I’ll have time to study for it. I’m going to shoot for 2-kyuu even though it might be a little too hard for me. I’d rather take it and have it be too hard, than take 3-kyuu and pass it with flying colors. This isn’t about confidence. It’s about being pushed to learn more Japanese. By studying for 2-kyuu over the summer, I think I can really do it.
Because of this, I’m going to try to do some semi-daily status updates as to my study progress. I’ll do a write-up here shortly about my study methods, and specifically how I plan to study. It should be a lot of fun, and I hope I can inspire a few other people to study hard to pass exams that currently seem too hard.
I know if I even took 3-kyuu now I’d probably fail, but the test isn’t until mid-December. That gives me a number of months to study and become better. I see how fast my Japanese has progressed since I got here in May, and I know I can become good enough to pass 2-kyuu. I can feel it.

I’ll be taking the 2-kyuu too. Good luck on the test!
